Scholarship Program

At Vismaya Kalike we understand that the work doesn't stop with our After School Learning Center program. To truly create an impact we must support the children beyond their schooling and support them towards their further education. During the Covid pandemic many families were unable to pay for the continued education of their children. We partnered with AID India to set up a scholarship program for learners who were interested in pursuing learning but were unable to pay for it. Here are some of the key statistics from the scholarship program.

Impact Stories

The following are some impact stories from the scholarship program. The names have been changed to protect the privacy of the individuals.

Afreen

Afreen's father passed away as she was in her third year of BCom. With no earning member in the house the scholarship was necessary to support her financially to complete her degree. Afreen successfully completed her degree in June 2023. She was successfully placed in her campus and started working in KPMG Global Service starting from July 2023. Afreen’s story of success has inspired many other girls in her area to continue their education.

Ganesh

Ganesh’s mother is a single parent and the income of the family largely came from Ganesh's sister. The pandemic severely affected their ability to pay Ganesh's fees. Through the scholarship Ganesh was able to complete his Bachelor’s in Computer Applications and scored 80% in his final exams. After graduation Ganesh found it challenging to find a job suitable to his qualifications but having been supported he did not have any debt and was able to persist. His hard work and patience paid off and he now works as a software developer at Ziac Software.

Lakshmi

Lakshmi moved from Tamil Nadu to Bangalore in search of a better education. Lakshmi’s education was supported by her mother’s domestic work but during the pandemic that source of income was not consistent. Lakshmi completed her BCom with an impressive 86% with our support all the while giving back to her community and conducting classes for children in her area as they coped with the pandemic. Today Lakshmi, works at HDFC Bank in Tamil Nadu and is the primary breadwinner for the family. This newfound stability brought immense joy to her family, who expressed gratitude for her accomplishments and thanked the support provided by the scholarship

Kalavathi

Kalavathi's situation was particularly dire after her father passed during the first wave of the pandemic. With her mother having passed away in 2018, Kalavathi's only support was her grandmother. Through our scholarship she was able to complete 2nd year and 3rd year BCom. Today Kalavathi is working in Customer Relationship Management in a company called Bookaprop. She is earning a stable salary and is able to support her grandmother and her cousin’s education in polytechnic.

Sneha Darshini

Sneha Darshini’s mother works as a domestic worker and her father is a daily labourer. During the pandemic both of them were unable to find work and they simply could not afford Sneha Darshini’s education fees. Through the scholarship Sneha Darshini was able to finish her 12th standard. Once the situation with the pandemic had settled her family was able to get back on their feet. Today Sneha Darshini is able to pursue her ambition and is studying to be a dentist. She has scored well in her first year of BDS and has secured a first class percentage.

Sundari

Sundari has immensely benefited from the scholarship we have provided and has finished second place in her college scoring 93% in her 2nd PUC. She intends to pursue CA and has started her B.Com course. Sundari has also been teaching children younger than her in her community with the hope that they too can score good marks like her.

Rajesh

Rajesh's father works as a sweeper for the BBMP and had taken large loans to pay for his education. With the support last year Rajesh was able to study without furthering his debts. He has cleared his exams finishing in the top ten students of his college. He has started working and has begun to clear his family's debts.

Aamir Ali

Aamir's ambition was to become a dentist and with the support of our scholarship he has successfully completed his BDS. Having scored well in his undergraduate degree he has been able to join a post graduate course in Bangalore at a very low cost while working as a dentist in the same college.

Kavin

Kavin is physically handicapped and diagnosed with kidney failure and is an extremely talented student. Due to Kavin's health issue, his father has had to become a full time caregiver. Kavin's education has been supported by a small shop his mother runs. Kavin has taken one step closer to his dream of becoming a doctor because of the scholarship support. He has cracked the NEET exam and has secured a seat in a government medical college.

Lasya

Lasya's father suffered from a stroke in the last year and is currently bedridden. The family is entirely dependent on the mother's income. With the support we have provided Lasya was able to score 86% in her exams and has secured an internship at HDFC Bank.
