What happens when 30 passionate facilitators come together in a space designed for dreaming, questioning, and creating?
Over two days in January 2025, the ViKa Workshop became a vibrant ground for play, reflection, and discovery. From theatre games to deep dives into democracy and learner agency, this wasn’t just a workshop—it was a journey of becoming.
The Sakhi-ViKa Workshop, held from June 13–15, 2025 in Hospete, marked the beginning of a powerful partnership between two value-driven organizations: Sakhi Trust and Vismaya Kalike. While Sakhi Trust has long worked with Dalit and Devadasi communities in mining-affected regions of Kalyana Karnataka, ViKa brings its philosophy of joyful, agency-driven, community-rooted education.
This collaboration was sparked by a shared dream: to reimagine education in the margins—not as a burden or a backup option, but as something children can experience with freedom, play, voice, and dignity.
The ViKa–Tammate collaboration brings together facilitators to explore what children-centered learning can look like in everyday practice. Through workshops held in October and December, we reflected on how children learn through play, relationships, and lived experience — and how learning centres can become spaces of safety, dignity, and choice.
New year at Vismaya Kalike has begun with movement across many fronts - from strengthening our learning resources and expanding collaborations to navigating challenges alongside the communities we work with. January brought moments of joy, reflection, and renewed commitment to building safe and joyful learning spaces for children. We are extremely grateful to all of you for being a part of our community and contributing to our journey both financially and otherwise.
February at Vismaya Kalike continued the steady work of building and nurturing our learning spaces. From restarting the Jayaraj Nagar centre and strengthening leadership within the team to participating in a residential training in Udupi, the month was filled with moments of learning, reflection, and collaboration. Alongside field work, we also continued documenting our practices through the ViKa Handbook as more groups express interest in creating similar community learning spaces. As always, we remain grateful to everyone who walks alongside us and contributes to this journey of creating safe, joyful spaces for children.
